True to form, Lux Homes battled back from a 4-0 deficit then fought off the Bombers in the 7th to win the nightcap at Lee Johnson tonight.  Zack Rockwell enjoyed a 3-4 night scoring twice and knocking in 2 runs.  Dannely Kelley, Dustin Biell and Chad Bickerdike each had a pair of base hits as well with a combined 5 RBI's and 4 runs scored between them. Tyler Zeman recently back from the DL, even got into the box score in this one with an RBI pinch hit single in the 4th.

Four Lux pitchers threw in this one with no one being very sharp allowing 9 free passes to Seattle hitters. However, when the at bats really counted the Lux pitchers got the outs they needed.   A scarey 7th inning where the Bombers loaded the bases on 3 walks and scored twice ended with Bickerdike getting the final out on a strike out.

Prairie & Lux Battle in Finals (July 9)             Lux Homes 2    Prairie 3

Jeff Donovan threw a solid game for Lux against a senior laden Prairie club today in the finals. But, things were not to be as Lux fell 3-2.  Dono pitched well enough to win but so did the Prairie pitcher who allowed just 4 hits on the day.  Lux Homes found themselves down 3-0 in the 7th when, like this club has done several times this year, Lux fought back once again and scored twice but the comeback fell just short.  Corey Hall, Kraig Strum and Gio Learned all had 7th inning hits in the bid at the end.

Team Effort Lands Lux in Finals (July 8)     Lux Homes 6   Skagit Sox  3

Lux Homes battled the Skagit Sox at their home park this afternoon & came out on top 6-3 at Skagit Valley CC. Paddy Levitt got the start on the hill and had arguably his best outing of the year. Levitt kept Sox hitters off balance all day spreading 6 Sox hits through 6 innings while allowing just one run.  Levitt pitched ahead and got outs early in his innings recording 10 fly ball outs.  Levitt pitched into the 7th then turned the ball over to Tyler Schroder who finished the Sox off on another fly ball to left to end the game.

BJ Leach and Chris Spencer combined on a 2 hit shut out striking out 10 against Kentlake this evening in Game 2 of the Skagit Sox Invitational.  Leach allowed one runner to reach scoring position in the top of the 1st inning but left him stranded striking out the side.  No other Kentlake base runner made it to 2nd base for the rest of the game.  Leach turned the ball over to Spencer in the 5th and Chris added 5 K's in the next 2 innings of work to shut the door.   Offensively, 8 Lux hitters all had base hits on the day led by Sam McNaghten who was 2-3 with 3 RBI. Ty Schroder had a pair of base hits and 3 RBI's and Chuck Pierce added two including the game ending single in the 6th to finish it.  Paddy Levitt threw 4 scoreless innings before being relieved by Chris Spencer who closed things out.

Comeback falls short for Lux (June28)    Lux Homes 11   Riverdawgs 12

Shoddy defense by Lux Homes and timely hitting by the Riverdawgs found LB down 9 runs with 3 outs to go.  Lux then woke up and made a furious comeback in the bottom of the 7th only to fall short 12-11 in Game 2.  A Kelly Gau walk started the rally and Kraig Strum promptly delivered the next pitch into the left field bleachers to spark LB. Paddy Levitt drew another walk and then successive hits by Corey Hall & Gio Learned put the pressure on the Dawgs.  Lux scored a couple more times and Strum came to the plate again  - lacing an RBI single to right.  With  2outs and the bases loaded & down 1 run Corey Hall hit a drive to deep center but it found leather and the comeback fell short by a run.  " This 'Never Say Die' attitude is a key element of this team" says Coach Hall. "We never feel we're out of it".

Lux 3-1 over Riverdawgs (June28)          Lux Homes 3    Columbia Riverdawgs 1

Lux Homes played tough defense and made key pitches when they needed to and beat a solid Columbia Riverdawg team this afternoon in Courde'lane 3-1.  Pitcher BJ Leach put forth a gutsy performance throwing a complete game in this one as he battled seeing eye singles and fisters that seemed to find the grass all day. BJ pitched with runners in scoring position in each of the first 4 frames but allowed just one run.  Danny Kelley ended a threat in the 1st throwing out a runner at the plate from left and then Shortstop Zach Rockwell provided the rest of the ' D '.  Rockwell was involved in 11 outs on the day playing all 8 ground balls that came his way flawlessly (including the final 3 outs of the game) to compliment Leach's ability to roll Dawg hitters over when he needed to. Danny Kelley had a pair of base hits, Dustin Biell doubled and Gio Learned continued to swing a hot bat with a single and added a crucial Sac Fly to plate the go ahead run in the 6th.

Buttermore Rolls vs Seadogs (6/25)                   Lux Homes 10  Seadogs 2

Lux Homes made it a sweep on the day winning the second game of the double dip behind a strong pitching performance by junior Jon Buttermore.  The big right hander threw his 3rd consecutive complete game  beating the Seadogs 10-2.  Buttermore recorded 5 strike outs while allowing just 5 hits and one walk.  "Butter was dealing aces today' commented Coach Conover.  Lux was held scoreless in the first but pushed runs across in each of the next five innings.  Dustin Biell went 3-4 scoring twice, Kraig Strum had a pair of base hits and Danny Kelley added a single and a double to the cause.

Better Late than Never (6/25)                      Lux Homes 8      Lakeside 6

Lux started slow at the dish this afternoon and slowly fell behind Lakeside.  LB starter Jeff Donovan kept his team in it with a gutty performance despite seeing eye singles & defensive miscues behind him. Lux found themselves down 5 in the 6th inning when they woke up.  A couple walks by Chuck Pierce & Adam McNaghten mixed in with singles by Dustin Biell and BJ Leach got the momentum moving in the right direction. Tyler Schroder then doubled followed by Chris Spencer & Danny Kelley adding singles and Lux took the lead.  Donovan was relieved by Chad Bickerdike who earned the win in relief.

Bombers - Lux Stay Even (6/22)              Lux Homes 10    Bombers 10 (10 inn)

Lux played the Seattle Bombers at BCC this afternoon to a 10-10 tie. A close game until the 8th when Seattle scored 6 runs taking a big lead, LB showed some heart plating 5 runs of their own in the top of the 9th to tie the game & keep things alive. Chad Bickerdike and Corey Hall each had 3 hits on the day with Hall clutching up big time in the 9th with a 2 run 2 out single to tie the game. Chris Spencer and Dustin Biell each had a pair of base hits as well. BJ Leach opened on the mound this afternoon and threw 6 good innings allowing just 2 runs thanks, in part, to some outstanding defensive play in left field by Adam McNaghten who made two fine catches including a run saving diving snag to end the 4th.

Levitt Leads Lux over Express(6/21)       Lux Homes 10   Express 5

Junior Paddy Levitt got his first start of the season and made the most of the opportunity.  After a shaky start, Paddy settled in and threw threw 6 innings dominating the final four frames allowing just one Express runner to reach 2nd base. This allowed the LB offense to come to life.  Life was supplied by Chuck Pierce and Kraig Strum who each had 3 hits and 2 RBI's on the day.

Luck Avoids LB Late(6/20)         Lux Homes 4     Laces  5   (9 inn)

Extra frames were required to figure this one out but in the end Lady Luck fell the Laces way and LB fell 5-4 in 9 innings "It's a funny game sometimes - who knows why some things happen' noted Coach Conover referring to how a little flare off the hitters handle found the outfield to score the Laces go ahead run. This followed a game saving snag by the Laces pitcher on a Dustin Biell screamer the inning before that would have ended it.   Zack Rockwell, Corey Hall & Chad Bickerdike each had a pair of hit in this. Rockwell turned in an outstanding defensive effort today and earned the P.O D with a sliding bare handed snag of a pop up in right that resulted in a huge out in the 8th.  Jeff Donovan battled through a lack of defensive support early to go 6 innings.

LB Runs out of Win (6/16)                Lux Homes 1   Chaffey 2

Lux wasted a great pitching performance by Jon Buttermore and missed several scoring opportunities falling today to Chaffey 2-1 at the U of W.  Buttermore tossed a complete game allowing just 4 Chaffey hits while walking 2.  “Jon threw a great game – he should have got the Win’ noted Coach Hall. Lux made 4 big base running mistakes with runners in scoring position and that was the difference in the game.  LB scored its lone run on back to back doubles by Dustin Biell and Chad Bickerdike.

Lux Beats Harley (6/15)                                     Lux Homes 13   Harley  2

Lux Homes scored early and often versus Eastside and took the first round from Harley Davidson 13-2.  BJ Leach earned the win allowing 2 runs on 3 hits over 4 innings and gave up no Walks before Paddy Levitt closed the affair with a scoreless final frame. Eastside on the other hand gave up 11 Walks to go along with Lux 10 hits including 3 from Adam McNaghten & 2 from Zac Rockwell & Danny Kelley who also supplied the Play of the Day on a fine running catch of a foul ball along the right field fence.

LB scored twice more in the 3rd behind Zac Rockwell and Biell's second double of the game.  Lux starter Jeff Donovan was throwing well but 4 balls found the dirt in the bottom of the 3rd and Beaverton started to grab a little life.  Lux scored a couple more times over the next 3 innings with RBI's from Adam McNaghten, and Rockwell and a 'Big Fly' by Tyler Schroder. But, Beaverton stayed in the fight and momentum continued to swing their way. Timely hitting by Beaverton and defensive miscues by Lux resulted in LB finding themselves in the bottom of the 7th with the ball game tied,  no outs and the bases loaded with the heart of the Beaverton line up coming up. Behind Chris Spencer on the mound, Lux pulled things together getting a fielders choice at the plate followed by a crucial Strike out by the Beaverton 5 hitter on a nasty Spencer splitter. The inning ended on a line drive snag by Biell in center giving Lux new life and a chance to fire it up one more time.

The 8th began with a Tyler Schroder walk and a well executed sac bunt by Danny Kelley (3-4 on the day) moving Schroder into scoring position. In a pinch hit role, Corey Hall delivered a driving double to left center scoring Schroder and giving Lux the lead.  Rockwell singled for the 3rd time in the game and scored on Biell's 3rd double on the day giving Lux a 3 run cushion.  Spencer took the hill again in the bottom of the 8th and finished Beaverton off giving Lux Homes their first tournament champiohsip of the year.

Errors Costly in Everett (6/5)          Lux Homes 7      Laces BB  10

In return, Lux extended their generosity giving Laces countless opportunities to win - which they did 10-7.   Lux Homes committed 5 errors on the day - 4 of which came around to score and the other produced another unearned run.  Offensively Lux notched 11 base hits with Zack Rockwell & Kelly Gau each having a pair of singles and Corey Hall continued to stay hot with 2 doubles. However, Lux left 8 runners in scoring position on the day.  Giving up unearned runs and then not taking them back when you have the chance is a fatal combination as the young LB squad learned the hard way today.

Lux Homes Puts One in the Bank  (6/3)    Lux Homes 7     Bankers 5

Jon Buttermore got the nod against the Bankers tonight and when all was said & done he had the 'W' going the distance for LB in impressive fashion. After a shaky 2nd inning, JB settled in striking out 5 allowing just 2 runs over the next 5 frames throwing a scoreless 6th & 7th to finish it.

Chad Bickerdike was excellent in relief throwing 3 scoreless innings striking out 3 while allowing just one hit.  An outstanding diving catch by right fielder Kraig Strum in the 5th and Bickerdike's effort kept Lux in a position to win this one but LB could muster no more offense to over take the early Bank lead.

Chaffey Wins 1st Battle of the Builders (6/2)     Lux Homes 2    Chaffey 4

Lux visited the U of W today for their first battle with Chaffey Baseball and before they knew it they found themselves in the 4th inning before they earned a hit. The Chaffey starter kept Lux batters off balance until Adam McNaghten broke the ice with a sharp single. In the bottom half of the frame the Chaffey 1st baseman hit a 2 run home run and LB was down 4-0.  Lux pitcher Johnny Mohrweis had done well keeping  LB in this one early before turning the ball over to Paddy Levitt who came into shut down a Chaffey rally.

LB began their come back in the 5th with a base hit by McNaghten and Jon Buttermore & Sam McNaghten delivered a pinch hit RBI to cut the score in half.  An outstanding catch by Kelly Gau on a pop up over the 3rd base dugout and a critical back door of a Chaffey runner at 2nd from catcher Gio Learned kept Lux in the hunt into the 7th.  However, with 2 runners on Lux couldn't muster another hit in the final frame and the game ended with Chaffey on top by two.

The Play of the Day came on the last out as Danny Kelly's sliding stop & toss at 2B put an end to the game.  Lux Homes demonstrated class and sportsmanship despite the ridiculous behavior of opposing coaches and the players should be commended for their behavior.

Biell Hammers Baseball vs Lakeside  -  Spencer earns first Win (5/25):          Lux  Homes 11  Lakeside 3:     Lux Homes scored early & often and rode the right wing of Chris Spencer to win the first official game of the season.   Dustin Biell had an outstanding day at the plate with two home runs including a monster blast half way up the opposite field pole in the 1st to plate 3.
